We’ve had Madden 21, FIFA 21 and UFC 4 in recent months from EA Sports, and today see’s the release of another licensed juggernaut in the form of NHL 21 on Xbox One and PlayStation 4.
Graced once again by cover star Alexander Ovechkin, this year’s instalment celebrates the most creative, innovate and fearless players to grace the league. You will be able to pull off signature moves inspired by these great innovators of ice hockey in several different modes.
The biggest changes this year are in the Be a Pro mode where it has been expanded to be more interactive and cinematic, bringing it in line with other franchise modes across the EA Sports umbrella. After creating a character, players can choose where to begin their careers in some of the international leagues from Canada, Germany or Sweden. Or risk it all and sign as a free agent straight into the NHL. Similar to the Face of the Franchise mode in Madden, there are dialogue options to choose from that will affect their stature and standings amongst teammates and management.
World of Chel also returns, promising 6 seasons of competitive gameplay and tons of rewards. Compete through six tiers for the best rewards: Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum, Diamond and Elite. Club Finals will occur during the last portion of each season in both 3v3 and 6v6 tournaments on a new rink in front of the hotel in Carter Lake.
Hockey Ultimate Team (HUT) obviously also returns with the new HUT RUSH mode, offering fast paced hockey action. But this is more about style rather than substance: scoring a goal is good, doing it with style grants the bigger bonuses.
Two editions of NHL release today, with the Standard Edition launching a few days later on 16th October for £59.99. The Deluxe Edition – coming in at £79.99 – includes the NHL 94 Rewind mode arriving at the end of October, 5 HUT Diamond Player Choice Packs, a HUT Cover Athlete Choice Pack, a HUT Synergy Veteran Choice Pack, 2 Unlocked Hockey Bags and bonus XP Boosts, Traits and Specialisation Points. The Great Eight Edition priced at £89.99 contains all the above but with 5 additional HUT Diamond Player Choice Packs. There’s the usual discount on those prices for EA Access subscribers.
If you’re looking for NHL 21 Points Packs, then they are available in various forms too. You’ll be able to pick up 100 NHL 21 Points for a mere £0.79, or go all the way up to a huge 12000 points for £71.99.
NHL 21 is the 30th instalment of the NHL series under EA Sports and is shaping up to be a good one. Stay tuned for a review coming soon but hit us up in the comments with your thoughts as well!
