Ninja Theory’s chief creative, Tameem Antoniades, appeared on the Xbox Extended Games Exhibition to offer an update on Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2. Although no gameplay was shown, Antoniades presented a montage of work in progress for all the different things – from art and animation to real-life visits to Iceland – that happen with development. Check it out below.

Ninja Theory is currently “Build a good chunk of the game before moving into full production to build the rest” according to Antoniades. The developer didn’t want to make a straight sequel to the original, choosing something “very special” even if it meant making life difficult for themselves. The title is set in 9th-century Iceland and combined with satellite data and photogrammetry to bring it to life, Ninja Theory builds real-life costumes and scans them in.

On top of that, the fight will be “extra real and cruel” with actress Melina Juergens having trained for two years for the same. Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2 under development for Xbox Series X / S and PC with a day one launch planned for Xbox Game Pass. Stay tuned for more details in the meantime.
