Lots of previous games in the series, The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword HD provides the option to upgrade your current gear. The main difference is that almost everything can be upgraded through various merchants in the Skyloft Bazaar. Let’s take a look at all the different equipment upgrades along with Treasures and the costs involved, starting with shields:

  • Wooden Shield – Accepted by Coach Owlan or purchased from the Gear Shop for 50 Rupees.
  • Band Shield – Upgrade Timber Shield. It costs 30 rupees and requires two Amber Relic, one Monster Claw and one Jelly Blob.
  • Bracket Shield – Upgrade Band Shield. It costs 50 rupees and requires two Monster Claws, three Amber Relics, two Tymbleweeds and one Decorative Skull.
  • Iron Shield – Purchased at the Gear Shop for 100 Rupees.
  • Reinforcement Shield – Upgrade Iron Shield. It costs 50 rupees and requires two Eldin ores, two ornamental skulls and two monster claws.
  • Walled Shield – Reinforced Shield Upgrade. It costs 100 rupees and requires three Eldin Ores, three Monster Claws, three Tumblers and one Blue Bird Fly.
  • Sacred Shield – Purchased from the Gear Shop for 500 Rupees.
  • Divine Shield – Upgrade Sacred Shield. It costs 100 rupees and requires three Decorative Skulls, one Dusk Relic and two Bird feathers.
  • Goddess Shield – Upgrade to the Divine Shield. It costs 150 rupees and requires three Monster Birds, four Dusk Relics, three Birds Fly and one Blue Bird Fly.

Next up is the Wallet, which holds all your Rupees. You start with the basic Wallet and you can buy three Extra Wallets from Beedle for 100 Rupees each (allowing for the storage of an additional 300 Rupees). Subsequent upgrades are possible with Thanksgiving Crystals – take these Bandeaux for the upgrades.

  • Medium Wallet – Requires five Thanksgiving Crystals
  • Big Wallet – 30 Thanksgiving Crystals Needed
  • Giant Wallet – 50 Thanksgiving Crystals Needed
  • Tycoon Wallet – 80 Thanksgiving Crystals Needed

Next, we have the various item upgrades. Some upgrades cost nothing but others require Rupees and materials (plus a trip to the Scrap Shop)

  • Beetle – Obtained from Skyview Temple.
  • Quick Beetle – Beetle Upgrade. It costs 50 rupees and requires two Ancient Flowers, two Hornet Larvae and one Gold Skull.
  • Tough Beetle – Quick Beetle Upgrade. It costs 50 rupees and requires three Ancient Flowers, four Amber Remnants, one Blue Bird Fly and one Goddess Plume.
  • Bug Net – Acquired from Beedle Air Shop for 50 Rupees.
  • Big Bug Net – Upgrade to Net Food. It costs 100 rupees and requires three Tumblers, two Ancient Flowers and one Evil Crystal.
  • Arch – Found at the Beach.
  • Iron Arch – Upgrade to the Arch. It costs 50 rupees and requires three Tumblers, three Monster Claws, two Eldin ores and one Crystal Evil.
  • Sacred Arch – Upgrade to the Iron Arch. It costs 100 rupees and requires five Tumblers, three Lizard Tails, two Evil Crystals and one Goddess Plume.
  • Slingshot – Locate friends of the oldest Kikwi.
  • Scattershot – Upgrade to the Slingshot. It costs 50 rupees and requires three Jelly Blob, two Dusk Relic and two Amber Relic.
  • Mitts Excavation – Obtained from Mogma at Eldin Volcano.
  • Mogma Mitts – Defeat Magmanos in the Fire Sanctuary and talk to Silva.

You can also upgrade to the Satchel and Arrow Quiver that hold ammo for your various weapons.

  • Satchel Small Seeds – Purchased for 50 Rupees from the Gear Shop.
  • Satchel Seed Medium – Upgrade to Satchel Seeds. It costs 50 rupees and requires four Amber Artefacts, three Monster Claws and three Decorative Skulls.
  • Large Seed Satchel – Upgrade to Medium Seed Satchel. It costs 100 rupees and requires five Amber Relics, three Monster Claws, one Gold Skull and one Blue Bird Fly
  • Bomb Bag – Located in the Temple of the Earth after defeating two Lizalfos.
  • Small Bomb Bag – Purchased from the Gear Shop for 150 Rupees or found in a Goddess Chest. Allows for carrying five more bombs.
  • Medium Bomb Bag – Upgrade to a Small Bomb Bag. It costs 50 rupees and requires one Newt tail, three Ornamental Skulls and one Blue Bird feather.
  • Large Bomb Bag – Upgrade to Medium Bomb Bag. It costs 100 rupees and requires three Lizard Tails, four Jelly Blobs, two Hornet Larvae and one Gold Skull
  • Small Quiver – Purchased from the Gear Shop upon receipt of the Arch. Costing 50 rupees.
  • Medium Quiver – Upgrade to the Small Quiver. It costs 50 rupees and requires three Monster Birds, three Dusk Relics and five Amber Relics.
  • Large Quiver – Upgrade to Medium Quiver. It costs 100 rupees and requires two Monster Horns, three Dusk Relics, one Gold Skull and one Goddess Plume.

Finally, we have Potions that can be used to restore health, replenish shield durability and restore stamina. Let’s take a look at all the different upgrades below.

  • Heart Potion – Purchased from the Potion Store for 20 Rupees.
  • Heart Potion + – Upgrade Heart Potion. It costs 20 rupees and requires three Bold Butterflies, one Volcanic Ladybug and one Woodland Rhino Beetle.
  • Heart Potion ++ – Upgrade to Heart Potion +. It costs 30 rupees and requires three Bold Butterflies, three Deku Corners, one Eldin Roller and one Cicada Sand.
  • Revive Potion – Purchased from the Potion Store for 50 Rupees but also found in a sealed Temple chest.
  • Potion + Regeneration – Upgrade to Potion Rejuvenation. It costs 20 rupees and requires three Deku Cups, two Skyloft Cakes and two Woodland Rhino Beetles.
  • Revive Potion ++ – Upgrade to Regenerate Potion +. It costs 30 rupees and requires three Lanayru Ants, two Woodland Rhino Beetles, one Gerudo Dragonfly and one Cicada Sand.
  • Stamina Potion – Purchased at Potion Store for 50 Rupees.
  • Stamina Potion + – Upgrade to Stamina Potion. It costs 20 rupees and requires three volcanic Ladybugs, two Sky Stag Beetles, two Gerudo dragonflies and one Maroon Cock.
  • Air Potion – Purchased at Potion Store for 20 Rupees.
  • Air Potion + – Upgrade to Air Potion. It costs 20 rupees and requires two Sky Stag Beetles, two Skyloft Mantises and two Lanayru Ants.
  • Guardian Potion – Purchased at Potion Store for 200 Rupees.
  • Guardian Potion + – Upgrade to Guardian Potion. It costs 40 rupees and requires one Grasshopper Baron, two Eldin Rollers, three Bold Butterflies and three Star Fire Pipes.
