Microsoft, Bethesda, and Arkane have not said much about the truth Discount since it was announced at E3 earlier this year, and with the game not out until some time next year, it’s probably time before we start getting more definitive details on it. Before that happens, however, several details and even a few screenshots of the game appear to have leaked Reddit, probably following a recent playtest. And while Bethesda has emphasized in the past that Discount still doing a lot of the things that Arkane games are known for, given that this is the studio’s first ever open world game, it’s no wonder that some of these revealed details mention some interesting changes.
Redfall’s the open world, for example, seems to inspire many other games. Borderlands it seems to be a big one, with the core gameplay link, boss fights, and NPCs being described as a bit like the Gearbox looter shooter series. It is claimed that the game will have a “core story” that players can follow, but there will also be “a myriad of side arcs, missions and fights” across the open world.
The size of the world is compared to Ghost of Tsushima a Fallout 76, and will probably be “seamless” similar to Breath of the Wild. In the meantime, there are probably a total of six playable characters, each with its own unique ability. One character can teleport across a short distance, one is accompanied by a bird acting as a drone, and another can use the ability of a cloak for stealth.
Speaking of stealth, stealth battling and outsmarting are described as viable options. Where weapons are concerned, you can expect traditional ones such as rifles and handguns, but there will also be some fancy ones tailored for the game, such as shooting out poles. Enemies will also have variety across various, melee, human and vampire types. Killing enemies and completing missions robs you of XP, but there’s not much else shared about progression.
Finally, the leak mentions that Discount it will be fully playable individually or in a co-op, which of course is also officially confirmed. In co-op, however, the leak claims that players will have no cooperative partners.
As always with any spill, it is best to remember that this is unverified information, so take this with a pinch of salt for the time being. Then again, the fact that screenshots of gameplay from this presumed playtest leaked also lends some credence to the details mentioned here. Speaking of which, you can check out the screenshots in the Reddit post via the link above.
Discount due in 2022 for Xbox Series X / S and PC.
