Few would say that when it comes to online game rental, the two most used services are Gamefly and Gamerang. Both companies have a well-established business and a growing membership base. However, which business is right for you? Well, it depends on a series of factors. First of all, what exactly are you looking for in a game rental service? Let’s go over some of the most frequently viewed features and compare them side by side.
In this category, Gamefly is the winner with more than 6000 titles and growing. Gamefly has just over 4,500 of them. Sometimes all that matters is who has the most recent games. In this regard, both companies are on top of new releases and the most popular games. That being said, some games are enjoyed later in life. However, having 1,500 more titles than Gamerang, Gamefly is more likely to have the title you are looking for instead of waiting for someone else to finish the game you want while you wait in a queue. .
In the past, Gamerang has stolen many Gamefly customers due to the simple fact that Gamefly only had one of Gamerang’s four distribution centers. This meant that the turnaround times were much longer for Gamefly as the games had to travel much further. For East Coast residents, Gamefly took the longest time as its base was in California. However, seeing this as a growing problem, Gamefly added three fulfillment centers to tie Gamerang together. Gamerang distribution centers are located in California, New Jersey, Oklahoma and Minnesota. Gamefly has distribution centers in California, Pennsylvania, Texas and Florida. At this point it’s a tie and I’m sure more crosses will appear. For now, assume that either service will get you a new game within 4-7 days of yours being mailed.
Gamefly and Gamerang tie.
One of the most important questions is how much will it cost? Here is the current pricing structure for both:
- 1 outing: $ 14.95 the first month and $ 17.50 each following month.
- 2 outings: $ 24.95 flat rate per month
- 3 rounds: $ 49.95 (with a refundable deposit of $ 75)
- 4 rounds $ 59.95 (with a refundable deposit of $ 100)
- 1 outing: $ 8.95 the first month and $ 15.95 each following month
- 2 outings: $ 22.95 flat rate
- 3 games: $ 29.95 (with a 60-day account in good standing)
- 4 games: $ 36.95 (with a 60-day account in good standing)
When it comes to pricing, Gamefly beats Gamerang in all categories. Additionally, Gamefly offers a 10-day free trial, unlike Gamerang. Gamerang does, however, come with a free one-year subscription to Wired Magazine. If it’s worth the extra cost, at least it’s something to count on.
I’ve heard that Gamerang has a longer customer service history than Gamefly. Gamefly, however, comes in strong with its attempt to curb this complaint. Whether or not Gamefly is aware of its customer service, Gamerang has a larger positive response than Gamefly.
Gamerang wins due to a longer record.
Gamerang has great service to provide, but when you line up pro versus pro, Gamely simply has more. Now, with their Gamefly rewards program, customers are rewarded even more with incentives based on the length of their membership. Gamerang has achieved one thing, however. When gamefly was poor service, Gamerang came along and stole a lot of thunder with better service and faster deliveries. This, however, made Gamefly even better because now they not only match Gamerang, but far surpass them.
