After the huge success of Remnant: From the Ashes launching on PC and consoles back in 2019, fans have been eager to return to this post-apocalyptic world. They now have the opportunity with Chronos: Before the Ashes; a prequel to Remnant that was previously only available on Oculus Rift. Today sees the predecessor release on Xbox One and Series X|S, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch and PC.
Set one month before the events of Remnant: From the Ashes, Chronos: Before the Ashes begins with a tale of a world once known where metallic buildings rose high into the sky. A world now long gone as it was overrun by enemies set from a place unknown. They were sent by a higher being known as The Dragon, and it is up to you to venture into this world and slay the winged beast.
Chronos is once again an action-RPG not for the feint of heart, but switches to a much more melee-focussed combat experience. World Stones will however help you travel between locations, and if you are running low on health you can always use a Dragon Heart.
Expect to also see familiar friend and foes alike, in locations that may too be recognisable. If you are a fan of Remnant or Souls-like games, then you could do worse than checking out our review of Chronos.
It does however have one unique feature to separate itself; the portal into the other world can only be opened once a year. Should you fail in your quest to slay the Dragon, your character will age a year before being able to try again. This means that your chances are finite, but also your superior abilities change over time. You may favour Agility when younger but change to prefer Arcane attributes as you age.
Chronos: Before the Ashes is available on Xbox now priced at £24.99. As always, let us know in the comments if you plan on downloading it, or hit us up for any tips and tricks!
