Bizarrely, Suicide Guy: Sleepin’ Deeply is the second game to launch today with a ‘guy gets stuck in his own dreams and needs to escape’ plot (see Darq: Complete Edition for the other later today). Perhaps the least refined of the two, this is the latest in the Suicide Guy series, and it continues the series’ penchant for weird platform-puzzling.
Suicide Guy: Sleepin’ Deeply is out now on Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S, joining previous drops on PS4, PS5, Switch and PC via Steam. The less said about the title, the better.
Suicide Guy is a nice, humble chap who has just happened to get stuck in his own dreamspace. He’s clearly not a big thinker, as his dreams are mostly rolling deserts, with barely a landmark to be found. For much of Sleepin’ Deeply, you’ll be cruising around in a dune buggy, searching for the next arena to test yourself in.
These arenas are all physics based, and this is where the joy of the Suicide Guy games comes to the fore. You will be rolling boulders, manipulating cranes, jumping off platforms and creating elaborate chain reactions that solve the world’s puzzles. Virtually everything in the environment can be picked up and moved, and you’ll have a (reasonably) clear objective that will require you to use some or all of them.
There’s 3-4 hours of gameplay here, so Sleepin’ Deeply is a short shot of enjoyment, rather than anything too long or meaningful. At a budget price, that’s reasonable. More so than the original Suicide Guy, the game has a story layered on top, so you can find out who or what is keeping him rooted in his own subconscious.
Suicide Guy: Sleepin’ Deeply is out now on Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S and starts at £4.99 from the Xbox Store. It’s also out on PS4, PS5, Switch and PC.
