Do you adore adventure games that can tell a good story and occasionally boggle your mind with puzzles? Then this love-letter to such adventures from developers Out of the Blue is calling out to you. Get ready for a mysterious tale set in the 1930s as Call of the Sea emerges on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Xbox Game Pass and PC.
Call of the Sea is the debut title for development studio Out of the Blue; they aren’t a team of newcomers however, it’s made up of veteran developers who have worked on Deadlight, Gylt, Celeste, Guacamelee! 2, and more. This game is the result of their passion project to create a puzzling, story-driven adventure and it’s turned out to be rather otherworldly.
It takes place in 1934, transporting you to the far reaches of the South Pacific. The protagonist, Norah (voiced by Cissy Jones of Firewatch and The Walking Dead Season 1 fame), has crossed the ocean while following the trail of her missing husband’s expedition. Now she finds herself on a lush, albeit nameless, island – a forgotten paradise, dotted with the remnants of a lost civilization. What strange secrets does it hold, and what might Norah uncover in her quest for the truth? What on earth has happened to her husband?
Exploring the tropical environment from a first-person perspective is the order of the day, with an immersive adventure found within that will spark emotion, create suspense and throw up surprises. Through investigating and solving various puzzles, you’ll discover clues of those who came before you and figure out the fate of the expedition, as well as enlighten Norah in what becomes a journey of self-discovery.
- EXPLORE THE BEAUTY – Explore a stunning tropical island (meticulously modelled in Unreal Engine 4), brimming with fantastic sights, lost ruins and occult mysteries.
- MEET NORAH – Experience a charming character study of a woman on her quest to discover the truth of the disappearance of her husband and to find out who she really is, fully voiced by Cissy Jones (Firewatch, The Walking Dead: Season 1).
- DIVE INTO THE DEEP – Immerse yourself in a story-driven adventure full of emotion, suspense and surreal surprises.
- SEARCH FOR MEANING – Investigate the clues left by a previous voyage, piece together what happened, and solve a variety of clever puzzles.
