The NPD Group’s report for video game spending in the United States for April 2022 is in and LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga has struck big. It was the second best selling title of the month and debuted as the second best selling title of the year to date. From the top of this, the action-adventure title was the best-selling game of the month across Nintendo, Xbox, Steam and PlayStation platforms.
The NPD Group’s executive director and game industry advisor Mat Piscatella revealed (via VentureBeat) that, “LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga achieved the highest launch-month dollar sales for any LEGO title in history, and after one month ranks among the top 6 best-selling LEGO games life to date. ” It’s also the first third-party title since Monster Hunter Rise released in March 2021 to become the best-selling game on Nintendo platforms.
Out for Elden Ring, it was the second best-selling title of the month and is still the best-selling game of the year to date. In fact, it’s already surpassed Call of Duty: Vanguard from the best-selling premium title for the 12 month period ending April 2022.
Consumer spending as a whole declined by eight percent compared to the same period last year with $ 4.3 earned. Year-to-date 2022 spending came at $ 18.3 billion which is also eight percent lower compared to last year.
