In 2021, Jeff Grubb on GamesBeat reported that the next Far Cry It would be a live service title following the departure of the series’ executive director, Dan Hay. However, Insider Gaming’s Tom Henderson is to report two new ones Far Cry games are being developed.

One of these is assumed to be a single player experience, Far Cry 7, while the other is multiplayer only. They are said to be one game early as The Talisker Project under the Hay before his departure. Far Cry 7 referred to internally as Blackbird Projectwhile Project Maverick is the multiplayer title. Ubisoft Montreal is heavily involved in both.

There aren’t many details, but two anonymous sources revealed it Maverick changed several times over the past year. It is said to be an extraction-based shooter set in the Alaskan wilderness and features contracts, backpacking and permadeath. Although there is a threat from other players, you will need to worry just as much, if not more, about the wildlife and the freezing weather.

Insider Gaming has seen screenshots of extraction zones, loot chests and more that go along with this premise but can’t show them publicly. Both titles are probably a few years away, at least, and are tentatively targeting Fall 2025. Ubisoft responded to the report with, “We do not comment on rumors or speculation”.

The distant statement coincides with Kotaku’s report on the next Far Cry being further out than Ubisoft originally intended. Time will tell if it succeeds in hitting it, or if there will be a delay, as seen with recent projects such as Skull and Bones a Avatar: The Borderlands of Pandora.
