Many are looking forward Lord of the Rings: Gollum, and after many delays, Daedalic Entertainment’s action-adventure title was finally launched earlier this week. However, it didn’t turn out the way the developer expected. The title has been heavily criticized by critics and audiences, and currently sits at a low score of 36 on Metacritic (and 41 for the PC version).

After receiving a lot of negative feedback, the developer took to Twitter to offer an apology to players, saying that he was “deeply saddened” by the state in which the game started.

“We would like to sincerely apologize for the confusing experience many of you have had The Lord of the Rings: Gollum upon its release,” wrote Daedalic Entertainment. “We acknowledge and are deeply disappointed that the game did not meet the expectations we set for ourselves or our dedicated community. Please accept our sincere apologies for any inconvenience caused.

“Our goal is a room, and it’s fun The Lord of Rings fans, usually tell a compelling story and scare. Creating a story with Middle-earth as our playground is a great honor – and the biggest challenge we have faced so far.
